The Young Technologist: Telling the Truth
In her later primary years, Nurin wrote and stapled a booklet to persuade other children to tell the truth, with a story about two friends and a photocopier.
Nurin, our second child, made many little books of her own. This one is a stapled A4 booklet called "The young technologist", Part 1: "Telling the Truth". She made it around 2016 to 2018, in her later primary years.
She introduces herself on the first page as "the young technologist", who is going to talk about things that will help you in life. Then she gets to the point. On a page headed "Motivations" she is honest about how hard it is: "As now I'm a child, I expirience how hard telling the truth is." She says she would rather tell the truth and get the punishment, "so that I won't make the same mistakes". And then: "I even make a composition about this to motivate children to tell the truth, here it goes!"
The composition is about two friends, Ahmad and Arsyad, a photocopier and some ten-dollar notes. Ahmad tells the truth. Arsyad does not. By the end Ahmad has learned that loving a friend does not mean doing whatever that friend does. Her advice on the last page of the story: "Be a GBF!", a Good Best Friend.
What we see in it
This booklet is Impart, the last step of our 4-I, in a child's own hands. Nurin did not keep the lesson about honesty to herself. She wrote it down for other children, in her own words and her own spelling, and gave it a title and a part number. She also admits that telling the truth is hard and that children are scared of being scolded. Hearing that from another child makes the advice easier to take.
